When starting a business, a basic understanding of mathematics is vital for budgeting and planning. A business needs to be able to accurately calculate its costs and income, understand the implications of taxes, and make projections for the future. For example, a business must be able to identify the potential profits of an investment and decide whether or not it is a worthwhile undertaking. Without a knowledge of maths, it is impossible to make such decisions.
Furthermore, mathematics is useful for data analysis. Businesses use data to inform decisions and chart progress. This can be anything from sales figures of a product to customer feedback. By understanding the basics of mathematics, a business can interpret data and use it to their advantage.
