Sample Answer:

In this globalised world, travelling to another country to learn its language and customs has become an increasingly popular option for students. While there are certainly advantages to this approach, I personally do not believe it is necessary for all students to pursue such an option in order to gain a thorough knowledge of a foreign culture.

On the one hand, there are several benefits to travelling to another country to learn its language and customs. Firstly, there is no better way to gain an understanding of a culture than to experience it first-hand. By immersing oneself in the language, one can gain a greater understanding of the culture’s nuances and the subtleties of its language. Secondly, travelling and experiencing a foreign culture can be a great way to expand one’s horizons and develop a more global perspective. Finally, studying abroad can be a great way to meet people from all walks of life, developing strong relationships and creating lifelong connections.

On the other hand, I do not believe it is necessary for all students to travel abroad to learn a foreign language and culture. Firstly, there is an abundance of resources available to students who wish to learn a foreign language without travelling. These include online courses, textbooks and even local classes taught by native speakers. Secondly, one can gain a great understanding of a culture without travelling abroad by reading books, watching films and studying art from the culture in question. Finally, in many cases, travelling abroad can be expensive and time consuming, making it inaccessible to many.

In conclusion, while there are certainly advantages to travelling to another country to learn its language and customs, I believe it is not essential for all students to do so. With the wide range of resources available, it is possible to gain a thorough understanding of a foreign culture without leaving one’s home country.
