Model Answer:
It goes without saying that parents, in this modern society, are busy on their own purpose and very often they cannot spend a quality time with their children. On the other hand, children spend a significant time in their school and eventually they spend a considerable amount of time with their peer classmates. Although to a certain extent parents could influence their children’s performance in school, the influence of classmates would be stronger on their success.

Typically, a child’s orientation towards success is influenced in the very early stage of his life by his parents. Children observe their parents’ footsteps and parents set goals for their children. Parents consciously or unconsciously train their children on how to stick to a goal and attain it. If parents are concerned in their children’s study, they get inspired to the study and ultimately can perform better in school. However, in the today’s contemporary society, parents very often do not have enough time to look after their children’s study. On the hand they are too busy and they think that teachers should take the main role in their children’s success. Consequently, parents, in most cases, no longer have influence in their performance in school.

On the other hand, when a child attends school, he spends most of his time with his peer classmates. Therefore, they can influence each other to a great extent. That is to say that the classmates influence the competition between them. There is not a denying fact that we live in a competitive world and everybody wants to win the race. When a student notices that his classmate is better than him in one subject, then he likely puts emphasis on the subject. Likewise, classmates can influence each others performance directly. They can study together, can help each other with some problems. For example, in my college life, we friends studied together and one friend of mine was excellent in mathematics and I was good at chemistry. We helped each other. This ultimately helped both of us to be successful.

To conclude, the harsh reality is that the parents have not enough time to look after their children’s study, though they can contribute to a great extent to their children’s performance in school. However, the above discussion reveals that classmates are an important influence on a child’s performance in school.
