The supplied table data presents information on the types of transportation modes English people used to travel from one place to others from the year 1985 to 2000. As is observed from the given data, car was the most preferred mode of transportation among English people.

According to the given table data, the main mode of transportation among British people was car, bus, train, taxi bicycle and walking. Initially in 1985, total distance travelled by English people was over 4700 miles and among them they used car to travel more than 3 thousand miles and this shows that car was the primary means of travel for English people in 1985. They walked over 250 miles in this year. Again they travelled more than 250 miles using train and local buses each. Bicycle usages was comparatively less as they travelled only 51 miles using this mode of transportation. Contrary to this, taxi usages for travelling was very less as overall distance travelled by British people in Taxi was only 13 miles which was the least among the given figures. Long distance bus was used to travel 54 miles while the other modes of transportations comprised 450 miles of travel in this year.

After 15 years the distance passed on foot reduced slightly to 237 miles. Total distance travelled in this year increased by almost 2000 miles and the popularity of cars as a mode of transportation increased significantly. Distance crossed using bicycle, local bus decreased while the total distance passed using long distance buses, train and other mode of transportation increased in the year 2000.
