Nowadays, children are exposed to a number of pressures in the realms of education, socialization and commerce. This essay will discuss the causes of this pressure and the measures which can be taken to reduce them.

The primary cause of these pressures is the increasingly competitive environment in which children must operate. In the educational sphere, parents often expect their children to achieve top grades in order to gain entry into prestigious universities. This expectation leads to a high level of stress for the child. In the social arena, children are exposed to a range of influences from peers, television and the internet. These influences often create unrealistic expectations about lifestyle, appearance and behaviour. Finally, in the commercial sphere, children are bombarded with advertising messages designed to make them feel inadequate if they do not purchase the latest products.

There are a number of measures which can be taken to reduce the pressure on children. First, parents should focus on supporting their child’s academic development rather than expecting perfection. This will reduce the stress associated with academic performance. Second, parents should monitor the amount of time their child spends watching television and using the internet, as these activities can lead to unrealistic expectations. Finally, parents should be aware of the power of advertising and encourage their child to be discerning about the products they buy.

In conclusion, there are a number of causes for the pressures facing children today. These include competition in the educational arena, social influences and commercial messages. However, if parents put in place appropriate measures, such as supporting their child’s academic development, monitoring their media consumption and encouraging a healthy attitude to advertising, then the pressure on children can be reduced.
