You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.
You are applying for a job and need a letter of reference from someone who knew you when you were at school.
Write a letter to one of your old teachers asking for a reference. In your letter:
- say what job you have applied for
- explain why you want this job
- suggest what information the teacher should include
You should write at least 150 words.
You do NOT need to write any address.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear _ ,

Dear Mr. Dougall Morrison,
I am writing in the hope that you would be willing to write me a letter of reference. My name is Ian Maxted, and I was a student of your school. You may remember me that I always came to your office hours after every test to go over some of my incorrect answers. Math was a very critical subject for me, and I swelled with proud as I received A in your class.
I know you are busy so I will get to the point. I am going to apply for math teacher in Longman High School and I am trying to collect a few letters of recommendation. I kick around your teaching style and decide to start by asking you. Would you like to write me a strong letter of recommendation for the school application?
I would be very happy to meet you at your convenience and provide my personal details and any other material that would need.
If you feel discomfort writing me a letter of recommendation, please do not hesitate to say no. I completely understand.
