Sample Answer:

Dear Mr. John,

I am writing this letter to inform you that the book ‘Principles of Accounting Part -2’ that I borrowed from the library was lost yesterday and I am seeking your advice on what should I do in this situation.

I borrowed the aforementioned book from the college library on 25th June and was supposed to return it before 2nd July. Unfortunately I dropped this book in a bus that I took to reach the college yesterday morning. After realizing that I have dropped the book in the bus, I immediately contacted the bus company and requested them to inform me whether they had got that. After few phone calls, they confirmed me that the book was probably taken by someone else and they could not find it.

As I know that the library rules are very strict regarding book returns on due time and hence I am bit worried about that. I would like to compensate the lost book by either purchasing a new one or by paying the fine according to the library rule. In this regards, I am looking for your advice.

I would be very grateful if you could advise me my next course of actions and oblige thereby.
