According to Abraham Lincoln, the philosophy of school room in one generation will be the philosophy of government in the next. From this statement, we can easily say how important school is to any nation. Children attend school for several reasons. They want to acquire knowledge, raise the awareness of society, or sharpen interpersonal skills. From my point of view, I think people attend school primarily to obtain knowledge in various subjects mainly. Although, their main purpose is to acquire knowledge, they also want to excel in interpersonal skills, to be aware of social phenomena and so on.
Knowledge can be attained by various ways. But the question is why people go to school for acquiring knowledge? The first and most reason is that schools have expert teachers in different fields, and students can understand a particular course comprehensively from them. For instance, I have been reading several books on historical events. Nonetheless, I have not much clear concept about those events. But when I am taught about those events in my history class, my teacher explains the different dynamics of those historical events, I make a clear apprehension of those events. From my experience, it is said that we alone, very often, are not able to understand a subject clearly, and that is why, children are sent to school.
Similarly, people also go to school in order to admit into a university because school certificate is essential for getting admission. People can be eligible for university having a school certificate. That is to say, if you want to get admission into a university, you have to obtain a school certificate. In addition, people decide to go to school so that they can develop their interpersonal skills that help them in getting good jobs in the future.
Knowledge is what we need desperately to survive in this world and schools are the place where one can get it in a systematic way, I think. Although acquiring knowledge is the first priority, people also go to schools for getting admission into university and for improving interpersonal skills.
