Sample Answer :
The university students are not the students of kindergarten that they should attend regular classes. I think attending classes should depend upon the choice of the student. If anyone thinks he needs to attend classes, he may do so and if he doesn’t find any interest in classes he should be allowed to stay away from classes. I firmly support making classes optional for the university students.
The universities are the highest places for knowledge production and the role of teachers and students are quite the same there. The terms ‘senior scholar’ and ‘junior scholar’ are perfect expressions to describe the students and teachers in a university environment. In a university, professors who are senior scholars can help to bring out the best from students who are ‘junior scholars. It’s not a relationship between boss and subordinates, rather it’s a relationship between two groups of knowledge seekers where each group helps other to get the best out in that process.
Sometimes too much classes takes much time from the students’ account which may hamper their personal study and extensive research. Universities classes should be meant for enabling students to do their work on their own and making the learners independent. Dependency on teachers shouldn’t be the purpose of the classes.
Here the philosophy of teaching should be kept in mind by the professors and teachers. Actually a teacher can teach little if the students don’t receive wholeheartedly. That is why it is the duty of the teachers to make the classes interesting and enjoyable; not boring and hackneyed. And teachers and professors should keep it in their mind that they are working to make the students independent and make them able to think and perform independently and hence forward play important role in the process of knowledge production.
I want to support the process of making classes optional for the university students because sometimes classes can spoil the geniuses among us. If we see the most successful persons of our time like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg, all of them were dropper from classes, and yet they are the icon for the millions of people. If they were forced to attend classes we might have missed to get the best from the greatest minds of our generation!
