Sample Answer:

The issue of traffic congestion and housing shortages in large cities is a major concern for many, and the suggestion to alleviate this problem by moving companies, factories and their employees to the countryside has been proposed as a solution. This essay will discuss the merits and drawbacks of this strategy, before concluding that there are some advantages, but ultimately it is not suitable as a permanent solution.

One of the primary benefits of moving businesses and factories to rural locations is that it would reduce the number of people travelling to and from cities for work each day, thus reducing traffic congestion in the cities. Furthermore, since many of these businesses are large and require significant amounts of space, this could free up large areas of land in cities for housing developments. This could help address the housing crisis that many cities are experiencing, and could also contribute to lowering costs of housing in the cities.

However, the drawbacks of moving businesses and factories to the countryside are significant. Firstly, the strain on the infrastructure of rural areas would be immense, as roads, transport links and other services would need to be improved to manage the influx of people travelling to and from work each day. This could put significant strain on the finances of local authorities, and could lead to an overall decrease in the quality of life in the countryside. In addition, it is likely that the cost of housing in rural areas would increase significantly, as businesses and their employees would need to find accommodation close to the factories and offices.

In conclusion, while there are some advantages to moving companies, factories and their employees to the countryside, it is not an ideal solution to address traffic congestion and housing shortages in cities. The strain on infrastructure, and the increase in the cost of housing, are likely to outweigh the benefits of reduced traffic and increased housing in the cities. Thus, while this option should be considered as part of a more holistic strategy to address these issues, it should not be relied on as a permanent solution.
