Sample Answer:

Nowadays, cities are becoming increasingly noisy due to a wide variety of causes. This essay will discuss the sources of such noise and potential solutions to reduce the decibel levels.

The primary source of noise in cities is traffic. The number of vehicles on the roads has been increasing steadily, and these vehicles are responsible for a large portion of urban noise. Additionally, construction works, such as the demolition and renovation of buildings, are another major source of sound pollution in cities. The use of heavy machinery and power tools can generate considerable sound, as can the activities of tourists, who can be particularly noisy.

There are several ways to reduce the noise levels in urban areas. Firstly, governments should introduce stricter regulations and enforce them more rigorously. This could include implementing a ban on loud vehicles, such as motorbikes and cars, and introducing fines for those who break the regulations. Secondly, the use of public transport should be encouraged, as this would reduce the number of vehicles on the roads, thereby decreasing the noise levels. Thirdly, noise pollution should be monitored more closely and those responsible should be held accountable. Finally, educational campaigns could be launched to raise public awareness of the issue and to encourage people to be more mindful of their noise levels.

In conclusion, there are a number of causes of excessive noise in cities, such as traffic and construction works. To combat this problem, governments should introduce stricter regulations and encourage the use of public transport. Furthermore, noise should be monitored more closely and educational campaigns could be launched to raise public awareness of the issue.
