The job market today is highly competitive, with employers expecting applicants to possess certain qualifications in order to be considered for certain roles. Consequently, there is a commonly held belief that it is best to choose a career or field of study early in life in order to secure a good job later in life. While I can understand the logic behind this notion, I believe there are other factors that should be taken into consideration when deciding on a career path.
On the one hand, there are some benefits to deciding on a career early in life. By committing to a particular field of study, a person can develop the necessary skills and qualifications to gain employment in a competitive job market. For example, if someone chooses to study engineering at a young age, they can focus their studies on the relevant sciences, mathematics and engineering principles in order to become an expert in their chosen field. This could give them an edge over other applicants when applying for jobs.
On the other hand, however, there are some drawbacks to making a career decision at an early age. For example, a person’s interests and goals may change over time. If they commit to a particular field of study, they may find that their interests have changed by the time they have completed their studies. This could be a waste of time and resources, as the person may not be able to secure employment in their chosen field. Furthermore, a person may lack the necessary experience to make an informed decision about which career to pursue. Without this knowledge, they may find themselves in a job that does not match their interests or skills, leading to dissatisfaction and unhappiness.
In conclusion, while it is understandable to choose a career or field of study early in life, I believe there are other factors that should be taken into consideration. A person should think carefully about their interests and skills, and consider the potential benefits and drawbacks of each career before making a decision. Furthermore, they should ensure they have the necessary experience and qualifications to secure employment in their chosen field. By doing this, they can ensure they make an informed decision and secure a job that is best suited to their interests and abilities.
