Sample Answer:

Nowadays, technology is developing rapidly, and it is undeniable that this has had an impact on criminal behaviour. Some people argue that advances in technology have led to a decrease in crime rate compared to the past. In my opinion, I agree with this point of view, and believe that technology has had a significant effect on crime prevention.

First of all, new technological methods have been instrumental in stopping criminal activity. For example, the use of CCTV systems has enabled police to monitor public areas, allowing them to identify and apprehend criminals in real time. Furthermore, advances in forensic science have enabled police to build convincing cases against criminals, using evidence such as fingerprints, DNA samples and surveillance footage. In addition, the introduction of electronic tagging and GPS tracking devices has made it easier for law enforcement to monitor criminals and ensure they do not re-offend.

In addition to this, technology has enabled law enforcement authorities to share information more efficiently. In the past, it was difficult for different departments to communicate and share data, but now they can do this quickly and securely through the internet. This has allowed police to more easily identify and track criminals, as well as share information about suspects and their activities. This has been instrumental in reducing the crime rate, as it has enabled police to apprehend criminals more quickly and efficiently.

Finally, the introduction of new technology has allowed people to stay safe in their homes. For example, the use of internet-connected security cameras and alarm systems has made it easier for people to monitor their homes and detect any suspicious activity. Additionally, online banking and payment systems have made it harder for criminals to commit fraud and theft. As a result, people feel safer in their homes and are less likely to fall victim to crime.

In conclusion, I believe that advances in technology have had a positive effect on the crime rate, by making it easier for law enforcement to detect and prevent criminal activity. Furthermore, technology has enabled people to be safer in their homes, and has made it more difficult for criminals to commit crimes. Consequently, I would argue that the crime rate today is lower than it was in the past, due to advances in technology.
