Technology has dawned a new day in our modern life. It, actually, has revolutionized our communication. We have Internet, we have cell phones and many more. Newly introduced electronic gadgets have made us capable to connect with others anytime, anywhere. It opens us so many social possibilities for everyone, but at the same time it makes us insular as well. This sounds paradox! But this is the fact that it has redefined our relationship. So, I agree with statement that telephones and email have made communication between people less personal.

No doubt, technology has stretched our horizons in a way not possible even few decades ago. Telephones and email provide us with a wonderful opportunity to share our ideas sitting miles away from each other, in different countries, even not knowing each other, helping each other with topsy-turvy thoughts. For example, I am working through telecommuting. In the method, I get all my assignments through email from my supervisor and if there is needed any clarification we discuss over telephone, Skype mostly. I work with my supervisor, even if I do not know him personally. So, the fact is revealed is that telephone and email makes it possible that communication can take place between strangers around the globe.

Now, let’s focus on our plugged in lives. We can find that our little devices, those devices in our pockets, are psychologically more potent that they not only change what we, but also change what we are. Some of the things we frequently do now are things that, merely few years ago, we would consider them disturbing or odd. So just take some examples. We do email or text during the corporate board meetings. Parents do emails or texts at breakfast and at dinner while their children bemoan about not having their parent’s full attention. But then these same kids deny each other their full attention. This is the glimpse of our epoch being together while not being together. People, thus, are becoming less personal more and more.

In fine, “Water, water, everywhere, Nor any drop to drink. We are connected than ever before, yet we are lonelier than ever. Telephone and email has made us connected more in quantity but less in quantity. Actually, in this situation, we all need to find that how we can use these technologies, technology of our dream, to make our life the life we can love each other, care each other.
