To what extent do you agree or disagree with this policy?
Sample Answer:
Nowadays, there have been many reports of juvenile delinquency particularly amongst teenagers. As a result, some countries are contemplating the introduction of a curfew which would restrict youngsters from going outside at night without an adult. While I recognise that this measure could lead to a reduction in the rate of juvenile delinquency, I believe that it is more important to focus on the underlying causes of this behaviour.
To start with, it is understandable why some governments are considering imposing curfews as a means of controlling the actions of teenagers. After all, by preventing youngsters from going out after a certain time, it would be difficult for them to become involved in criminal activities or to be exposed to potential dangers. Moreover, with parents present, it is likely that teenagers will be better monitored and perhaps even reprimanded for their behaviour.
On the other hand, I believe that this type of policy is too generalised and does not address the fundamental issues. It is true that a curfew could lead to a reduction in the rate of juvenile delinquency but it does not tackle the underlying causes of this behaviour. For instance, it is possible that young people are indulging in criminal activities as a result of peer pressure or a lack of parental guidance. If this is the case, then curfews would not be effective in tackling the problem.
In conclusion, while I accept that a curfew could be beneficial in controlling the activities of teenagers, I believe that the underlying causes of juvenile delinquency should be the main focus of attention. If the root of the problem is identified and addressed, then I believe that this could lead to a decrease in the rate of juvenile delinquency. Therefore, rather than imposing curfews, governments should focus their efforts on tackling the real causes of this behaviour.
