Sample Answer:

In the modern world, taking a gap year has become a popular trend among graduates after finishing their studies. There are two commonly held opinions on what one should do during this break period, with some advocating for gaining work experience and others supporting travelling. In my opinion, I believe that gaining work experience during a gap year is the superior option and disagree with the aforementioned statement.

First and foremost, there is no better way to gain knowledge and experience than through practical application. By taking up a job, students can learn about the industry in which they are working, can gain a better understanding of the skills and qualities needed to be successful in their chosen field and can also make useful connections within the industry. For example, a student who is interested in pursuing a career in marketing can take up a job in an advertising agency and gain invaluable insights into the industry; such experiences are extremely difficult to replicate just through travelling.

In addition, taking up a job during a gap year can also be financially beneficial. Many jobs offer competitive salaries that can help the student settle financial obligations such as university fees, or even contribute towards postgraduate studies. Furthermore, it can also provide the student with valuable skills in managing finances and budgeting, which will be extremely useful in their future career.

On the other hand, travelling can provide students with the opportunity to explore new places and learn about different cultures, and many students use this time to unwind and relax. However, it can also be argued that such experiences can be gained through weekend trips and holidays, and thus there is no need to set aside an entire year for travelling. Furthermore, there is no guarantee of gaining knowledge and experience through travelling, which is essential for success in the competitive job market.

In conclusion, I believe that work experience can provide students with invaluable insights and knowledge that cannot be gained through travelling. It is also more financially beneficial than travelling and can help students gain useful skills that can be used in their future career.
