Some people like to try new things, for example, places to visit and types of food. Other people prefer to keep doing things they are familiar with.

Discuss both these attitudes and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Write at least 250 words.

Sample Answer:

There is no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to exploring the world and trying new things. Some people enjoy the thrill of the unknown and actively seek out opportunities to experience something new, whereas others prefer to stick with the familiar.

For those who enjoy trying new things, the appeal lies in the anticipation and excitement of discovering something new. Taking a risk and stepping outside of one’s comfort zone can be rewarding and can lead to a greater appreciation of the world around us. For instance, travelling to a new location can lead to a greater understanding of different cultures and even the development of lasting friendships with local people. Furthermore, trying new types of food can open up a whole new world of delicious flavours and increase our culinary repertoire.

On the other hand, those who favour familiarity may feel more comfortable sticking to the same places and activities that they know. This can lead to a sense of security and contentment and can also prevent potential disappointment if the new endeavour does not live up to expectations. There is also the practical side of things – some people may not have the time or resources to participate in unfamiliar activities, so it makes sense to stick to what they know.

In my opinion, a balance between the two is ideal. There is something to be said for the familiarity of routine, but it is also important to challenge ourselves and explore the world around us. The best way to do this is to start small, perhaps by visiting a new restaurant or trying a new sport. This way, we can slowly introduce new experiences into our lives without feeling overwhelmed. This approach can also lead to a greater appreciation of the places and activities we appreciate and know best.
