Sample Answer:

Nowadays, the crime rate is increasing in many countries, and this has raised the question of what should be done to prevent crime. On one hand, there are those who believe that more action can be taken to reduce criminal activity. On the other hand, there are those who think that only a limited amount can be done in this area. In this essay, I will discuss both sides of this argument before giving my opinion.

Those who believe that more action can be taken to reduce crime argue that effective measures can be put in place to deter potential offenders. For instance, stricter laws and longer sentences can act as a deterrent to those who are considering committing a crime. Additionally, more money could be invested in law enforcement, allowing the police to be better equipped to tackle criminal activity. Furthermore, improved social services and job opportunities could be provided for disadvantaged people, enabling them to lead a more productive and crime-free life.

Nevertheless, there are also those who believe that little can be done to prevent crime. They argue that criminals will always find a way to commit a crime, regardless of laws and punishments. In addition, the causes of crime are often complex and multi-faceted, and some people may be driven to commit crimes due to factors such as poverty or social exclusion. As a result, even with increased police presence, improved social services and longer sentences, some criminals may still be motivated to commit a crime.

In my opinion, I believe that more action can be taken to reduce crime, as strict laws and longer sentences can act as a deterrent to potential offenders. Additionally, improved social services and job opportunities can help to reduce the causes of crime, such as poverty and social exclusion. However, the effectiveness of these measures will depend on the individual context, and it is important to consider the particular causes of crime in each country. Therefore, governments should assess the causes of crime in their own country, and invest in measures that are tailored to the particular situation.
