Sample Answer:
In today’s globalised world, many people are living in countries far from their native land. Consequently, this has sparked a debate about whether individuals should assimilate completely to their new country, or if it is more important to preserve their native culture. This essay will discuss both sides of the argument and provide my opinion.
On the one hand, it is understandable that individuals should assimilate completely to their new country. This is because of the many advantages it would bring. For example, immigrants would be more likely to find employment in their adopted country due to the fact that they would be familiar with the language, laws, and customs. Furthermore, they would be able to better integrate in their new culture, making them feel more comfortable and secure.
On the other hand, it is also important to preserve one’s native culture. This is due to the fact that it is an integral part of one’s identity, and should not be forgotten. For example, many immigrants have strong cultural ties to their homeland, such as their religion or language, which they may wish to keep alive. In addition, preserving their culture can help immigrants to feel more connected to their own identity, and give them a sense of belonging in their adopted country.
In my opinion, I feel that both points of view should be taken into account. Immigrants should certainly learn the language and customs of their adopted country, as this will make them feel more at home, and help them to integrate better into their new society. At the same time, however, it is important that they keep their native culture alive. This can be achieved by celebrating traditional festivals, speaking their native language, or by taking part in community events that celebrate their culture. Ultimately, it is important to find a balance between assimilating to the new country and preserving one’s native culture.
