Sample Answer:
Human civilisation started its journey by fearing and relying on nature but it has now changed with our dominance and control over it. We know that with environmental degradation comes our peril, but we are lethargic to take control as we believe that we can not do anything from an individual level and that the authority and scientists will take necessary steps in the future to prevent it. New legislations are required to sometimes force people to play their role while awareness campaigns can educate them to become more responsible when it comes to protecting the environment.
The reason why most people are not responsible enough to prevent environmental problems is that they do not believe that they can make any significant impact on reversing the environmental problems. Most citizens have no idea how their actions can save the planet. The truth is every choice we make has direct and indirect impacts on our environment. The cars we drive, the dresses we wear, the electronic items we decide to purchase or even the way we use the internet affects the environment. Moreover, most people fail to realise the gravity of climate change and its consequences in our life. They believe major disasters will not happen in our lifetime and advanced technology and scientific feats will save our planet in the future in such events. Though they are not sure how, but they are filled with false hope.
The first step to invite ordinary people in the process of saving our planet is to make new laws while implementing the existing ones so that people take responsibility. The laws can deter them from activities that harm our environment. For instance, we need laws to limit the number of cars each family can own and the number of air conditioners they install at their houses. We also need media advertisements, awareness campaigns and similar educational programmes so that people are encouraged to plant more trees and make informed decisions to protect the environment.
To conclude, none of us wants to make the planet an uninhabitable place but due to the lack of knowledge and responsibilities, we are constantly damaging it. It is expected that proper laws and awareness campaigns will reverse the trend.
