IELTS Academic Writing Task 1: Sample Answer

The given illustration presents information about the overseas development aid from South Korea, Sweden, UK and USA in billions of dollars in 2011 and official aid from all countries for a 12 years’ time. As can be seen from the given data, Sweden gave the highest percentage of aid for overseas development and there was 60% shortage on the required aid amount from 2000-2011.

As is given in the first table data, all the four countries shared significantly less aid as was promised except Sweden. Agreed international target of international aid was 0.7% in 2011. The promise aid was 8 billion dollar for South Korea while it was 5 billion for Sweden. UK was promised to aid 16 million while it was highest in case of USA which was 105 billion dollars. On the contrary, the delivered aid by these countries was far less than the amount that was promised. South Korea delivered 2 billion dollars which was one fourth of what was promised. In case of Sweden the delivered amount was more than promised. Amount delivered by the USA was 30 billion, though that was the highest amount, still it was only one fifth of the promised amount.

Again, the requirement for international aid by all countries was 3.16 trillion dollar from 2000 to 2011, achieved percentage of this aid was as low as 40%. 1.91 trillion dollars were shortfall during this time as international aid.
