Sample Answer:

In recent years, more and more elderly people have opted to live in retirement homes and centers, rather than with their grown-up children. This essay will discuss both the positive and negative aspects of this phenomenon.

On the one hand, there are several advantages to elderly people living in retirement homes. To begin with, it gives them a greater sense of freedom and independence as they no longer need to rely on their adult children to look after them. Furthermore, it allows them to form relationships with other older people, and participate in activities such as exercise classes and games that can help to keep them social and active. Additionally, the homes offer them a safe and secure environment and provide professional care in the event of any health issues.

On the other hand, there are some arguments against elderly people living in retirement homes. Firstly, they may feel lonely and isolated, as they are away from their children and grandchildren who can provide them with emotional and social support. Secondly, it can be very expensive as the cost of care in these homes and centers is usually quite high. Lastly, there is a risk that the elderly person may become depressed due to the lack of physical contact with their family.

To conclude, it seems that there are both positive and negative aspects to the elderly living in retirement homes, and it ultimately depends on the individual’s personal preferences. In some cases, it may be the best option for them, while in others, living with their adult children might be more beneficial. Nevertheless, when making the decision it is important to consider all the factors carefully in order to provide the elderly person with the best possible care.
