Sample Answer:

Music has been a key element of human culture for centuries and its impact on our society continues to be the subject of fierce debate. While some view it as merely a form of entertainment, others argue that it has a much wider significance. This essay will discuss both these perspectives before summarising and offering an opinion.

On the one hand, there is no denying that music is an enjoyable pastime and a source of pleasure for many. Radio stations and streaming services make it easy to access vast catalogues of music for free or for a relatively small fee. It is also a central feature of many social gatherings, providing a backdrop for people to socialise and enjoy themselves. In this sense, music is purely about entertainment and enjoyment.

On the other hand, it is undeniable that music can have a powerful effect on people and has been used to influence individuals and communities alike. Political leaders have often sought to use music to galvanise support for their cause, whilst churches have employed it to communicate their message. Moreover, it has been used to unify groups of people and to create an emotional connection between them. This demonstrates that music is far more than a source of entertainment.

In my opinion, music has the potential to be both of these things. It can be a lighthearted and enjoyable experience, but it also has the power to move people and shape society. I believe that its significance is far greater than a simply form of entertainment, and its influence should be respected and celebrated.

In conclusion, it is clear that both sides of the argument have merit. Music is a source of great enjoyment, but it also has the power to bring people together and to shape our lives in meaningful ways. For this reason, I believe that it should be acknowledged as a force for good.
