You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.
Write a letter to a teacher asking for a reference letter for a job and explain:
- why you have chosen him to write the reference letter
- what kind of job you are applying for
- why you think you are suitable for this job
You should write at least 150 words.
You do NOT need to write any address.
Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Dr. Serge Lourie,
I was hoping you would be willing to write me a reference letter. My name is David Giles, and I have completed my graduation in English literature from your university last month. I will be applying for lecturer in English Literature in City College, Belfast, and the application is due by November 7, 2015.
While I was in your class, I became fascinated with the literature and teaching style as well. That is to say, in your class I found myself paying attention to not only what was being taught, but also to how you actually taught the lesson. I have chosen teaching profession because I believe teaching is perhaps the most crucial function performed in our culture, and can elevate society to a great extent. However, your guidance and learning tools that you provided are exactly why I am coming to you to request a reference letter for the position as lecturer in English Literature at City College that I am interviewing for. It would be extremely appreciative if you took a few minutes to speak about my enthusiasm for literature.
