Teamwork or rowing the boat is always a dilemma for employers when it seeks the priority. Our contemporary world has embraced an unprecedented change that no one could think ever before. The advent of the sophisticated technologies goes hand in hand with the explosive growth of economy. It has changed the form and nature of organization. We have big corporations, multinational, transnational companies where working in a team is considered to be the key competence. Because, it hones communication skill, increases working efficiency, and provides better solution.
Today’s business world has change enormously. Leaders, managers, employees are working in an environment characterized by international partnerships, workforce diversity, and all the other hallmarks and hurdles of globalization. In the environment, fortunate leaders, managers, employees, and supervisors will be those who have a keen knowledge on the values of collaboration, have the caliber to design and lead effective teams, have the ability to work in a team and to supervise the workers in a team setting environment. Actually, teamwork is the linchpin of today’s business organization in the way it is being operated.
The prime impetus for business world to embrace the team concept is the attempt to foster productivity and quality. Teams are the key ingredient of many total quality management programs. For example, General Motors have adopted the QS 9000 program. Team is the modus operandi of the automobile manufacturing company to make sure quality while holding down a low-cost approach manufacturing. Secondly, team improves the quality of work life for employees. Members in a team are empowered to make decision on how to get the work done. This results in a sense of ownership and accountability for the work being accomplished, which by consequence create a rewarding and satisfying work-environment. Last but not least, organizations prefer teams for solving problems effectively and efficiently. One person’s knowledge and ability are limited, while every individual is different and has unique quality. Thereby, members in a team with unique qualities usually increase creativity of team members and the team as a whole. So, members come up with a more effective solution than one person working on the same problem if they apply different competent.
From above discussion, it is revealed that team work is one of the cornerstones of contemporary business world. Therefore, working in a team is the precondition to get a toehold in the business or job avenue.
