Sample Answer:
Nowadays, there are two main approaches to reducing pollution. Some people believe that increasing taxes on various industries is the most effective way to reduce it, while others think that there are better alternatives. In this essay, I will discuss both views before expressing my own opinion.
On the one hand, increasing taxes on companies in various industries could be a useful way to reduce pollution. If taxes were increased, companies would have to pay more for the resources they use, which in turn would make them reconsider their activities and reduce their production of harmful pollutants. This would also make companies think twice before they start projects that involve a lot of pollution. Furthermore, by increasing taxes, governments could incentivise companies to invest in more environmentally-friendly practices and technologies.
On the other hand, some people believe that there are better alternatives than increasing taxes. For example, governments could establish regulations and enforce them carefully to ensure that companies adhere to their environmental standards. Additionally, governments could introduce incentives or subsidies for businesses that adopt more sustainable practices. Finally, governments could raise awareness and educate citizens about the importance of environmental protection and how to do their part in reducing pollution.
In my opinion, both approaches to reducing pollution should be employed. Increasing taxes on various industries should be part of the solution, but it should not be the only solution. Companies must be incentivised with subsidies and tax breaks to invest in more eco-friendly practices. Furthermore, governments should not just focus on taxation, but also on introducing regulations and raising awareness about environmental protection. Only when all these approaches are combined can we have a real impact on the amount of pollution in the world.
