Some music is very inspirational. Other music seems boring and meaningless. Which type of music do you listen to and why do you think some music forms are much more popular than others?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Sample Answer:
According to Confucius, “music produces a kind of pleasure which human nature cannot do without”. It is, from this quote, clear that music is the inspiration of all what we do. Some music is dull and trivial, although. However, I love music very much, particularly pop. There are so many types of music, but some music forms are much more popular than others. Nowadays, pop, rock & roll, country songs, hip hop, and heavy metal are the most popular music than any others types.
From time immemorial, music has always been an indispensable part of our every day life. Music is permeated into our will and woe. It is not only the expression of feelings, but equally heals the restless mind. Besides, the melody of music triggers thoughts and memories of a favorite person, place or event. And this is completely true in my case, particularly while I listen to pop music. I believe that pop music has the ability of conveying all sorts of emotions. ‘Imagine’ by John Lennon, say, is a mash-up of different emotions that when I hear it, it always evokes a sense of equality in me and I can contemplate the world where people are not divided in terms of religion, possessions, and so on. Furthermore, its ethereal melody is so catchy that even sometimes warbling the song in the bathroom gives me a happy start to the day. Again, in my college days, I used to hear Michel Jackson’s ‘Beat it’. Whenever, I listen to the song, it reminiscences my college memories and whole day I croon the song. Another song I want to share is Elton John’s ‘Your Song’. There is in this song such stark credence that it evokes tranquility almost immediately.
There are several genres of music. Some of more popular music categories are pop, blues, classical, rap, hip hop, jazz, country, folk, metal and rock & roll but overall list goes on and on. Jazz music is popular for its iconoclastic aspect. It is accepted by American youth culture for rebelling against the horrors of mechanized welfare and puritanical morality of the nineteenth century. Hundreds of thousands of college-age Americans adopted the music as a way to demonstrate their ancestor.
Again, the strong reason of country song’s popularity is its relationship between the countryside and the city. Country song provides us with a stereoscopic impression of tradition in a period of rapid change. That is to say that on the one hand the images are ballads and love songs, memories of the good old days, family, hearth and home, and tales of broken love, distance from beloved ones, restless movement from town to town. Country song mushroomed in popularity after the World War II. Similarly, rap is popular for its authentic voice of an oppressed urban underclass, classic music for its timeless appeal, folk music for rustic charm, metal music for symphonic sound and contemporary issues.
To wrap up, music is the spontaneous fusion of multitude emotions. To me, music is not merely something to listen to or play, it is something to feel as I believe pop music evokes some strong emotions to feel. Accordingly, there are some music forms are more popular for their particular appeal.
