Nowhere can you find anyone who is not interested in sports. From the ancient period, sports have been playing a paramount role in shaping human civilization. In fact, sports are the great source of joy and recreation. Not only does it recreate human, but also human can learn several skills are crucial for everyday life. That is why, Sports was an essential activity entrenched in the ancient Greek societies reflecting their philosophy. In the ancient Greek societies, sports was utterly crucial as it allow men to prepare themselves physically, to attain as perfect a body they could. Dualism, the predominant philosophy of the time, refers to the body and mind constituting our being, therefore both ought to be developed. Their gods was also personified as an epitome of idealized human being, perfect portrait of femininity and masculinity, and the notion of these Gods squared physical training and athletics to achieve perfection with them. Moreover, arête, which can be translated into competence, excellence, and valour, was another philosophy inculcated in the ancient Greek societies that every Greek was eager to attain, particularly in sports. The great and tenacious efforts of the athletes culminated in the games, where many of them paraded arête.Likewise, in this modern ere, sports, as an integral part of modern society, contributes to the modern people to a great extent. Sports instills the spirit of competition is what is extremely crucial in today’s cut-throat competitive world. There is competition everywhere to get a toehold in the desired place. For instance, children participate in the stiff competitions for getting admission to their preferred school. Similarly, people take part in competition almost every phase of their life ranging from attracting parents to boss in workplace. Sports, thus, are very worthwhile in modern life. Apart from this, sports also entrenches a sense of discipline, togetherness, and fellow-feeling. Most importantly, it develops camaraderie and teaches us how to achieve a common goal. And in general, it provides us with stimulation for hard work. Another key fact to remember is that sports give us authentic pleasure, which has great impact on monotonous modern life.

To wrap up, sports in any epoch in any society do have a profound significance, even if the importance is not perceived by the people of the society. Sports prepare human beings so as to lead a happier, healthier and more prolific life. That is why people consider sports as an important activity in their lives.
