How the Australian Bureau of Meteorology collects information on weather

IELTS Academic Writing Task 1 with answer.

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

The diagram below shows how the Australian Bureau of Meteorology collects up-to-the-minute information on the weather in order to produce reliable forecasts.

Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information shown below.

You should write at least 150 words.

Australian Bureau of Meteorology

Sample Answer 1:
The given illustration describes how the weather prediction is collected by the Australian Meteorology Bureau and how this information is broadcasted as reliable weather forecast through mass media like TV and radio.

As is observed from the given pictorial, satellite, radar and digital buoy are used to collect weather information from different sources and these raw data are then analysed and processed by high technology devices.  The satellite takes photo, radar sends information to the radar analyse screen and bouy sends information as synoptic chart. These data are then fed in to a computer system to prepare for the broadcasting phases. The computer device analysed these combined data to create reliable weather forecast.

The processes and prepared weather forecast are then send over TV, radio and recorded devises for the broadcasting. The general people get the weather forecast from these sources and thus the Bureau of Australian Bureau of Meteorology completes their task of collecting, analyzing and broadcasting weather information.

Model Answer 2:
The process indicates data about how Australian Bureau of Meteorology gathers up-to -minute information on the weather to present credible forecasts. There are four stages in conveying the information: incoming information, analysis and forecasting, preparing and broadcast.

In the first stage, weather information is gathered by satellite, radar and drifting buoy in the sea. After that, the information which is transferred by satellite is analyzed in satellite photo, while the other information from radar and drifting buoy are analyzing in radar screen and synoptic chart respectively.

The result from analyzing process would be gathered in computer. Finally, the weather forecasts are ready to be broadcasted by using three means of media, namely: television, radio and record announcement.

Interestingly, the information from satellite and drifting buoy are not only transmitted to satellite photo and synoptic chart relatively, but also to radar to be analyzed in radar screen.

To sum up, the data about weather forecasts have to be done in sequence in order to be reliable.

Sample Answer 3:

The given flow chart describes the step-by-step processes involved in the acquisition of information on the weather in Australia by the Bureau of Meteorology. Overall, it is immediately clear that the whole process is divided into four individual steps.

To begin with, the sources of information come from three places namely: satellites, radars and drifting buoy. Signals are collected from these sources and analyzed and forecast through satellite photo, radar screen and synoptic chart before they are being passed onto a central computing system.

Conspicuously, it can be seen that signals from the radar can either go through a radar screen or a synoptic chart before being passed onto the central computing unit. At the computing unit, these signals are prepared before they are being sent out. Finally, the information of the weather can either be transmitted to the radio, TV set or telephone for Australians to know the weather forecast.
