IELTS Academic Writing Task 1: Sample Answer

The table compares the size of West Farm and the value of land per hectares in five different periods of time, between the years of 1900 and 1990.

It is clear that the size of West Farm was diminishing followed by an increase in the price of land over the years, with the exception of between 1990 and 1990, the size of land grew significantly larger.

In just over a decade, the price of land per hectare had rocketed by 20 fold, up to 20 dollars in 1925. By then the size of West Farm shrank considerably down to 850 hectares compared to 5000 hectares in 1900. In the next 15 years, surprisingly the price only up by 5 dollars, this was followed by an increased in land acquisition by doubling its previous size. However, in 1970, the size of the West Farm was again contracted to only one-third of the size bought in 1940, this could be explained a concomitant price hiked to 100 dollars, four times the price of the last thirty years. In 1990, although the price of land remained to be highly expensive at 125 dollars per hectare, West Farm expanded its size to 35000 hectares, seven times larger than in 1970 but still smaller than the size of the land acquired in 1900.
