IELTS General Writing Task 1 with sample answer.
You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.
Last month you had a holiday overseas where you stayed with some friends. They have just sent you some photos of your holiday. Write a letter to your friends. In your letter:
- thank them for the photos and for the holiday
- explain why you didn’t write earlier
- invite them to come and stay with you.
You should write at least 150 words.
You do NOT need to write any address.
Begin your letter as follows:

Dear John and Sarah,
How are you both? I hope this letter will find you in good health. I would like to thank you not only for the indelible holiday but also for the lovely photos that you sent of the moments we shared together. It makes the memory so live to me. It makes me feel staying with you.
I am extremely sorry that it has taken me so long to write back. It is because I am so busy with my pending assignments. I toiled almost 24/7 to meet deadlines. Now I am little bit relax.
Anyway, we will be celebrating our first marriage anniversary and it would great if you could join us to share our happy moment and meet my family members. Besides, you could also enjoy the scenic beauty of my city. I expect you staying with us as there is enough room and we will pick you up at the airport. We really expect your presence eagerly.
