IELTS General Writing Task 1 with sample answer.
You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.
Write a letter in response to a local newspaper advertisement asking people to help with an environmental protection project. In your letter you have to say:
- why you are interested
- what you can do
- when you can start
You should write at least 150 words.
You do NOT need to write any address.
Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Sir,
I am writing in response to your advertisement published in The Times on Sunday, November 15, 2015. The reason I am writing is that I am always anxious about the dire consequences of environmental issues and would like to work in your project in order to protect our environment.
I live in a busy suburban where heavy littering has become a pressing issue. Plenty of shopping points have been dotted without planning in the area. Many careless shoppers throw food and snack packs onto the sidewalks. On the top of that, the issue has gone bad to worse as the shop owners themselves keep their garbage on there. I, therefore, am willing to work in order for ameliorating the condition.
As a volunteer for the project, I can spend two hours twice a week collecting trashes from the sidewalks of my neighbourhood. I can also work for spreading awareness about the need to clean the neighbourhood. And since I am not engage in anything right now, I can start any time you want.
I hope you will give the opportunity to keep my neighbourhood litter-free. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
