IELTS General Writing Task 1 with sample answer.
You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.
A friend has agreed to look after your house and pet while you are on holiday.
Write a letter to your friend. In your letter:
- give contact details for when you are away
- give instructions about how to care for your pet
- describe other household duties
You should write at least 150 words.
You do NOT need to write any address.
Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Marie,
Hope this letter finds you in sound health. I don’t want to belittle you by giving thanks for looking after my pet and my house during my vacation starting from January 2 to 9. Anyway, the aim of this letter is to give some instructions in looking after the pet and the house.
My cat, Loki, is very placid. It won’t bother you. So, what you need to do is to give her food timely. The schedule is stuck in the kitchen door and I’ve already cook her food kept it into the fridge. Her water pot and bowl are kept under the dining table. There is some milk in the fridge that she drinks it once a day. So, please serve her a warm cup of milk. Loki usually sleeps around 9 pm and wake up 7 am. When she sleeps in her cage, please make sure that the cage is locked. Apart from this, please water the plants in the balcony at least once a day. Besides, there is a plenty of foods kept in the fridge for you. All you need is to warm them. After using any appliance, make sure it is unplugged. At night, please check that doors and windows are properly locked and turn on the lights outside the house.
