Historical objects should be brought back to their country of origin

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Sample Answer:

In the modern world, it is widely accepted that many historical objects should be returned to their country of origin. This essay will discuss both sides of the argument and will conclude that, on balance, it is better to return these objects.

On the one hand, it can be argued that historical objects should remain in the countries where they are currently located. For example, some museums in Europe are home to artefacts taken from other parts of the world. This can be seen as a way of preserving these objects and allowing them to be seen and studied by a wider audience. Furthermore, it could be argued that these objects should remain in their current locations as a way of ensuring that their cultural significance is appreciated in a variety of contexts.

On the other hand, it is also possible to argue that these objects should be returned to their original countries. For instance, it can be argued that these objects hold a special significance to the cultures and people who created them, and that they should be given the opportunity to experience and appreciate these objects in their original context. It could also be argued that returning these objects is a way of righting a wrong, and that returning these objects is an acknowledgement of the damage inflicted upon the original cultures when these objects were taken.

Overall, it is clear that there are arguments on both sides of the debate. However, in my opinion, it is better to return the historical objects to their country of origin. This is because it is a way of honouring the original cultures and allowing them to appreciate the objects in their original context. Furthermore, it is also a way of addressing the wrongs of the past, and rectifying some of the damage that was inflicted upon these cultures when these objects were taken.
