Sample Answer:

Nowadays, the influence of families on a child’s development is widely discussed, with many suggesting that external factors have a greater influence on a child’s development than those found within the home. Although there is an element of truth in this statement, I disagree with this opinion and believe that family still plays a major role in a child’s development.

To begin with, the home environment is the first place where a child begins to learn about the world and develop certain values and beliefs. This is because, from the moment a child is born, they are surrounded by their parents, siblings and other family members who shape their understanding of the world. For example, parents are the first role models for a child, and through their behaviour, language and values, they can model how to behave and how to interact with others. Therefore, it is clear that family has a significant influence on a child’s development.

However, it is also true that external factors outside of the family can play a role in a child’s development. While the home is a safe and protected environment, children do not live in a bubble and they need to interact with the outside world in order to develop the necessary social and academic skills required to succeed. Therefore, it is important that they have access to a variety of resources, such as educational institutions, recreational activities, and social groups, in order to learn and grow outside of the home.

Nevertheless, despite the fact that external factors are important in a child’s development, I believe that family remains the primary influence. This is because the home is where children spend the majority of their time and, as such, it is where they are most exposed to their family’s values and behaviour. Furthermore, parents are typically the main caregivers of a child, and as such, they are the ones who will be responsible for providing the necessary guidance and support in order for a child to develop.

In conclusion, it is true that external factors outside of the home can play a role in a child’s development, however, I believe that family remains the primary influence on a child’s development. Therefore, it is important for parents to ensure that their home is a safe and supportive environment and to ensure that their child has access to the necessary resources and opportunities outside of the home in order to allow them to grow and develop.
