Nowadays, there is a great debate about the financial support that governments should provide to retired people. Some people believe that the elderly should be supported financially by the state and others argue that they should take care of themselves. This essay will discuss both views before providing a conclusion.
The first perspective is that governments should provide financial security to retired people. This is because they have spent their entire lives working and paying taxes, so it is only fair that states should give them something back. Furthermore, in some countries, pension plans are not as generous as in other countries. In this situation, state support would be essential for retired people to have a comfortable life. Furthermore, because of the increasing life expectancy, the combination of state support and pensions will help elderly people to cope with the cost of living, including medical expenses.
On the other hand, many people believe that retired people should take care of themselves. This is because people should save money during their working lives so that they can have some financial security when they retire. In addition, many retired people have pensions and other savings that they can rely on. Furthermore, if retired people are financially independent, they will not be a burden on the state budget.
In conclusion, although there are arguments for both sides, I believe that the most feasible solution is a combination of the two. Governments should make sure that elderly people do not suffer from financial instability when they retire by providing basic support and pension plans. At the same time, people should save money during their working lives so that they can support themselves in the future.
