Everyone should become vegetarian because they do not need to eat meat to have a healthy diet
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Sample Answer:
The discussion around vegetarianism has become increasingly commonplace in the last decade, with some people arguing that everyone should become vegetarian because they do not need to eat meat to have a healthy diet. While I agree that a vegetarian diet can provide many health benefits, I disagree with the notion that everyone should become vegetarian.
On one hand, some individuals may benefit from becoming vegetarian. For example, studies have shown that vegetarian diets are typically lower in saturated fat, cholesterol and animal protein when compared to non-vegetarian diets. Consequently, vegetarian diets can reduce the risk of certain chronic health conditions such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain types of cancer. In addition, vegetarian diets can also be helpful for those who wish to lose weight in a healthy manner as they are often lower in calories than non-vegetarian diets.
On the other hand, it is important to recognise that vegetarianism is not necessarily suitable for everyone. For example, a vegetarian diet can lack certain nutrients such as zinc, iron, and vitamin B-12, which are essential for healthy growth and development. Therefore, if individuals do not make an effort to include these nutrients in their diet, they may be at risk of developing deficiencies. Furthermore, some individuals may struggle to follow a vegetarian diet due to their cultural or religious beliefs. For instance, some cultures and religions may consider the consumption of certain animal products to be essential for good health.
In conclusion, while vegetarianism can provide numerous health benefits, I do not believe that everyone should become vegetarian. Some individuals may benefit from a vegetarian diet, while others may find it difficult to follow due to cultural or religious beliefs, or risk developing nutrient deficiencies.
