Answer 2:
The given bar chart illustrates the illiteracy rates in the world according to sex and regions for the year 2000. Overall, it can clearly be seen that South Asia had the highest illiteracy rates whereas developed countries had the lowest illiteracy rates.

To begin with, developed countries had the lowest illiteracy rates by gender. However, it can be observed that illiteracy was more amongst females than the males although the increment was very insignificant. This trend can also be seen in Latin America/ Caribbean where females had 14 percent of illiteracy levels compared to males’ 10 percent.

A closer look at the chart indicates that among the remaining four regions, the illiteracy level among females was conspicuously higher than among the males. For example, in East Asia/ Oceania, males had 8 percent illiteracy rate compared to 20 percent of females. Also, Arab states recorded 29percent among males and 52 percent among females.

Lastly, South Asia which had the highest illiteracy level, recorded illiteracy rates of 34 percent and 56 percent amongst males and females respectively.
