Sample Answer:

In recent years, there has been a heated debate about whether gender equality has already been achieved or if there is much work still to be done. This essay will discuss both sides of the argument before outlining my own opinion.

On the one hand, there are people who believe that gender equality has, to some extent, been met. For instance, in many countries, women have the same access to education, employment and legal rights as men. Moreover, in many cases, women are actually outperforming their male counterparts. For instance, in Britain, there are more female students graduating from university than men.

On the other hand, there are those who feel that there is still a long way to go before true equality between the genders is reached. For example, in many countries, there is still a pay gap between men and women, even when doing the same job. Furthermore, there are still many areas in which women are under-represented, such as in politics and business. This is likely to be caused by a lack of confidence in women or a fear of them being seen to be too ambitious.

In my opinion, gender equality has certainly improved in recent years. However, there is still a long way to go. Ways of tackling this include introducing legislation to ensure a fair wage for all, regardless of gender and encouraging more women to enter into fields which are traditionally male-dominated. In addition, there needs to be a shift in attitudes, so that ambition and leadership in women is seen as an asset rather than a threat.

To conclude, while there have been improvements in gender equality in recent years, there is still work to be done in order to achieve true parity between the genders. This can be achieved through legislation, as well as a change in attitude.
