Sample Answer:

Nowadays, consumers are increasingly bombarded with countless advertisements from competing companies. It is widely debated to what extent these advertisements have an influence on consumers and what can be done to protect them.

It is argued that advertisements are highly influential and are capable of influencing the behaviour of consumers. They are able to use powerful messages and persuasive language to make consumers feel that they need to purchase a product. Additionally, many advertisements are created with the intention of creating an emotional connection with the consumer, thereby making them more likely to purchase the product. Furthermore, it is claimed that advertisements have a subliminal impact on consumers, as they are often designed in a way that is not always recognised by the consumer.

On the other hand, some argue that advertisements are not as influential as they once were due to the current level of consumer awareness. It is argued that consumers are now more informed than ever before and are able to distinguish between genuine and false claims. Additionally, the internet has allowed consumers to compare prices and reviews of products, making them less likely to be influenced by persuasive advertising.

In order to protect consumers from the influence of advertisements, it is essential that the government creates and enforces laws to regulate the advertising industry. These laws should ensure that all advertising is honest and factual, and that any false or misleading claims are dealt with accordingly. Additionally, it is important that consumers are provided with more information on the products they are being advertised, including the ingredients and any potential side effects. Finally, it is essential that companies are held accountable for any negative effects of their advertisements.

In conclusion, it is difficult to determine the exact extent to which consumers are influenced by advertisements. However, it is clear that the government needs to take measures to protect consumers from any potential negative influences. It is my opinion that these measures should include tighter regulations on the advertising industry, as well as increased consumer awareness.
