Some people believe that the best way to increase the road safety is to increase the minimum legal age for driving cars
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Sample Answer:
Road safety is an important issue that needs to be addressed in order to reduce the number of fatal accidents. While some people suggest that raising the minimum legal age for driving cars is the best way to achieve this, I disagree with this opinion and feel that other measures should be taken.
Firstly, increasing the legal age for driving cars would not necessarily make roads safer. In many countries, the legal age for driving cars is already 18 and young drivers are still involved in accidents. Therefore, raising the legal age is unlikely to have a significant effect on road safety. Furthermore, it is not only young drivers who are involved in accidents. Older drivers are also often involved in collisions due to their poor vision, reaction times and general health. Consequently, raising the legal age would be an unfair and ineffective solution to the problem.
A more effective way of improving road safety is to educate drivers and improve their awareness of the importance of safe driving. Schools, universities and even driving schools should be providing more comprehensive training on the dangers of reckless driving and the importance of observing the rules of the road. This would help to ensure that all drivers, regardless of their age, are aware of the risks associated with driving and are more likely to drive safely.
In addition, stricter laws and tougher punishments for reckless drivers should also be implemented. For example, drivers caught speeding or using their mobile phones while driving should be penalised more severely. This would help to deter such behaviour and make roads safer for everyone.
In conclusion, while some people believe that raising the minimum legal age for driving cars is the best way to improve road safety, I believe that more effective solutions such as better driver education and tougher punishments should be implemented instead.
