Some people think that the best way to increase road safety is to increase the minimum legal age for driving cars and riding motorbikes
To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is true that the increase in the minimum legal age for both driving cars and riding motorbikes could potentially increase road safety. However, there are other measures that could potentially be more effective. In this essay, I will discuss both sides of the argument, and explain why I believe that other measures should be considered first.
On the one hand, it is true that increasing the minimum legal age for driving cars and riding motorbikes could potentially reduce the number of accidents on the roads. Young people are, statistically, more likely to take risks when driving, and so raising the legal age could help to reduce the risk of accidents. Furthermore, it could be argued that young people are less likely to abide by the rules of the road, and so raising the legal age could ensure that only those with a greater sense of responsibility are driving on the roads.
On the other hand, I believe that other measures could be more effective in increasing road safety. Firstly, it is important to ensure that all drivers are properly trained and tested before being allowed to drive on the roads. This could help to reduce the number of accidents, as those on the roads would be more aware of the rules and regulations. Secondly, harsher punishments should be given to those who break the law, as this could act as a deterrent and ensure that people take road safety more seriously. Finally, the introduction of more stringent safety regulations for vehicles could help to reduce the risk of accidents, as cars and motorbikes would be more likely to be in good working order.
In conclusion, although increasing the minimum legal age for driving cars and riding motorbikes could potentially help to increase road safety, I believe that other measures should be considered first. By ensuring that all drivers are properly trained and tested, giving harsher punishments to those who break the law, and introducing more stringent safety regulations for vehicles, it is possible to improve road safety without increasing the legal age.
