IELTS Academic Writing Task 1: Sample Answer

The provided bar graph compares the housing prices in rural, suburban and urban areas for two different years with a gap of 10 years. As is observed from the graph, the housing costs in all these three areas have increased significantly.

As is presented in the bar graph, housing cost (above 150 thousand dollar) in urban area was highest in the year 1990. In this year housing cost in rural area was lowest (about 75 thousand dollar) while it was more than 100 thousand dollar in suburban area.

After 10 years in the year 2000, the housing prices increased drastically and the highest cost was in urban area which was about 300 thousand dollar. Compared to the prices of urban area, the housing cost in rural area was less than half (about 120 thousand). The suburban housing prices also increased notably and reached to over 275 thousand dollar.

In summary, housing prices in urban areas were highest and the prices increased radically in 20 years.
