Nowadays, the idea of television programmes imparting knowledge and education to its viewers has become a point of contention for many people. While some argue that such programmes should focus on raising awareness about social issues, others are of the opinion that it should centre around pure entertainment. In my opinion, I agree that popular television programmes should endeavour to inform people of important social issues.
To begin with, the advent of television has resulted in a large number of people tuning into the programmes, which makes it a powerful tool for imparting knowledge. It is a well-known fact that the majority of viewers, particularly those belonging to the younger demographic, are most likely to watch television programmes. Therefore, by incorporating educational elements into these programmes, it is possible to spread awareness about various important social issues. For instance, by showing the consequences of substance abuse in an entertaining yet informative manner, it can help to educate people about the dangers of such activities. Moreover, it can also inform them of the need to support those affected by such issues and how they can contribute to help them.
Furthermore, by creating such programmes, it not only serves to educate the masses, but it also allows them to become more aware of the various problems present in the society. This in turn, can help to spur people into action and be more proactive in terms of creating a better world. For example, if a programme were to showcase the detrimental effects of poverty, it can inspire people to volunteer in charities or donate to causes that help the less privileged. In this way, it is possible to create a positive change in society and help to eradicate the problems.
On the other hand, some may argue that television programmes should focus on pure entertainment rather than educating people. However, even when it comes to entertainment, it is possible to incorporate elements of education.
